Unfortunately, we will never see $2 / lb again. Not sure of the prices now, but last year we bought a side of beef from a friend and was 5.00 / lb cut and wrapped. That seems to be the going price now. Rediculous. Great for the farmer. Not so for the consumer. Keep looking on kijiji for beef. We are getting to that time of year when the hobby farmers are selling beef. Good luck.

wow! Everywhere I've contacted from NS, NB, QC have all quoted the same and NONE were $8.00/Lb as you say. The highest and also the most common for fully cut, vacuum sealed and detailed labeled and ready for delivery to you was $5.50-$570/Lb.
Now, that's obviously still more than ON, AB, SK and really anywhere west of the expensive Atlantic Coast where everything costs more. A LOT more sadly.
I can list a bunch if you're interest in that price. It basically comes out to be the live $/Lb + butchers and packages fees ($450+) on an average 500-800 Lb cow. Adding it all up averaging right back to the $5.50+/Lb.

Thanks,
Let me know if you want names and numbers.

Just because meat prices are high sure as heck doesn't mean farmers are getting rich. Half the time the grocery stores are selling pork and chicken for less than it costs a small operator to raise it. All hail the factory farm...

Just don't lose sight of the fact that the price/lb when you buy a side is a middle ground. You're getting cuts that would sell for less in the store, but you're also getting cuts that would sell for a lot more. In the end, it's still cheaper to buy in bulk.
