Reeds in Gaspereau Valley best buy for graded AA inspected meat. I sell you a side, but its all spoke for and I price mine off Reeds retail Commodity price.
I second oultons, but prices all over have become to steep for me even for pork.Lucky enough to have a farm in the family.Last time i bought a swinging side commercially was a bit ago and i think it was $2.00 lb ,likely a lot more now
Unfortunately, we will never see $2 / lb again. Not sure of the prices now, but last year we bought a side of beef from a friend and was 5.00 / lb cut and wrapped. That seems to be the going price now. Rediculous. Great for the farmer. Not so for the consumer. Keep looking on kijiji for beef. We are getting to that time of year when the hobby farmers are selling beef. Good luck.
wow! Everywhere I've contacted from NS, NB, QC have all quoted the same and NONEwere $8.00/Lbas you say. The highest and also the most common for fully cut, vacuum sealed and detailed labeled and ready for delivery to you was $5.50-$570/Lb.
Now, that's obviously still more than ON, AB, SK and really anywhere west of the expensive Atlantic Coast where everything costs more. A LOT more sadly.
I can list a bunch if you're interest in that price. It basically comes out to be the live $/Lb + butchers and packages fees ($450+) on an average 500-800 Lb cow. Adding it all up averaging right back to the $5.50+/Lb.
Thanks,
Let me know if you want names and numbers.
feeder cattle sale at maritime cattle sale barn in Truro on Saturday. we have 12-15 grass fed animals going. get some friends and go buy a couple then have them killed/cut wrapped. a few of ours are 1000+/- pounds.

Just because meat prices are high sure as heck doesn't mean farmers are getting rich. Half the time the grocery stores are selling pork and chicken for less than it costs a small operator to raise it. All hail the factory farm...
Just don't lose sight of the fact that the price/lb when you buy a side is a middle ground. You're getting cuts that would sell for less in the store, but you're also getting cuts that would sell for a lot more. In the end, it's still cheaper to buy in bulk.
Birddawg....you are absolutely correct. I am a small scale beef farmer with show cattle. Farmers may not be getting rich ....but I would take 2.50 a pound live weight now as opposed to 60 cents a pound a few yrs ago. I agree.....still way cheaper to buy in bulk. Just look what the grocery stores want for a pound of "so called " lean burger.

I'm killing a sterile heifer before 15th May. Depending how big she is we may have a side for sale.
Lots of people looking.
